The New York Times has an interactive feature in its Travel section online called “Tell Us the Best Places to Go in 2011”. Readers have chosen a number of popular destinations throughout the world – some of them quite predictable – and supporters of Finger Lakes Wine Country have gotten Watkins Glen on the map as the No. 1 Destination.

While we agree that Watkins Glen is a premier vacation spot, we also want to support a site that encompasses our partners’ businesses. The poll requires the nomination of an individual town or city rather than a general appellation such as “Finger Lakes” or “ Steuben County ”. To that end we have nominated Hammondsport as a top destination to visit in 2011.

Hammondsport is a charming jewel of a village, and the gateway to a great time in the Finger Lakes region. We want to encourage readers of the New York Times to visit Hammondsport and your support of this effort would be greatly appreciated!

You can access this interactive poll online at Please follow the instructions and type in Hammondsport in the box. Right now, Watkins Glen has 195 votes. We need to surpass this to make Hammondsport the No. 1 pick of Best Places to Go in 2011. It will only take a moment of your time but the results could be long lasting and very advantageous to our hotels, B&Bs, shops, restaurants, wineries and other attractions.

This poll is an annual feature and being featured on the map carries a great deal of prestige. We encourage you to access the page and act promptly to promote Hammondsport. Please tell your family, friends and business colleagues about this poll and suggest that they vote as well.

Thanks in advance for your help to keep the beautiful Finger Lakes region in the public eye.
